Conqra Eziyaka CEO Grant Brown is an experienced builder who, in the early 1980s, became aware of the challenges faced by the concrete foundations industry and decided to do something about it.

Here’s the story in Grant’s words: “When inspecting a job I was working on, a building inspector told me to place three 40mm thick concrete pavers into the bottom of a pile foundation that was below the water table and couldn’t be pumped dry. This was to achieve the 100mm of minimum concrete embedment as described in the New Zealand building standard NZS3604. I thought there must be a better solution.

“I went away and created the Eziyaka precast concrete foundation pad. With Ernst Lapish, the co-opter of the NZS3604 standard, I then presented this product to the Auckland chapter of the Building Officials Institute of NZ (BOINZ).

“From there, we went on to develop new Eziyaka products for a range of concrete foundation systems, including the Stunna galvanised pod floor spacer and the Apache vapour barrier for penetrations and capping.

“From these practical beginnings, Eziyaka has developed a family of concrete foundation products designed specifically for New Zealand building conditions.”

Eziyaka products are currently being BRANZ approved – this will replace the original Codemark received in 1993.
